Diminutive but stout, the chief of the Cantrefi of Rhufoniog, Dafydd is said to be one of the best war captains in the Kingdom of Gwynedd and has a fierce reputation. He also has a prickly one centered mostly around his significantly shorter than normal stature. In his youth, he was briefly called "Dafydd the Short" but the speed with which he challenged (and defeated) those who used such a nickname promptly led him to instead gaining the nickname, "the Fierce."
