Teddy's rancher family moved out west when he was young, ending up in Colorado. He relocated to Denver when he came of age, eventually distinguishing himself as a deputy marshal, such that the US Marshal's office took notice and recruited him in 1873. Since then he's worked in the District as a Deputy US Marshal, and continued under US Marshal Charles C. Tompkins (Doc's LEO Contact) when he took office there in 1875.
