The Dawnbreakers Brotherhood began as a mutual-aid society for veterans and grew into the dominant body licensing mercenaries across the Free Cities. It vets and licenses fighters, registers legitimate military contracts, supports its veterans, and enforces the contracts its members swear — a contract sworn before the Brotherhood being treated as one sworn before Mordaveth himself.

Its people rise from Raw recruits through Bladesworn, Shieldwall, and Ironwarden to the regional leaders called the First Dawn, and every hall keeps a resident Hilt-Priest of Mordaveth, whose Claim Rite most members accept though none are compelled to. The Brotherhood guards its reputation jealously: an employer who has broken faith with mercenaries before may quietly find no Brotherhood blades for hire.
