Victoria grew up in the norther Dust-Bowl of the old United States as her family traveled around looking for work. Her father died early of black-lung from too much time working outdoors without a respirator. Her mother died later of pneumonia (primarily), leaving her in the care of her older brother, picking up much of his personality and habits—smoking, gambling, motorcycles, fighting; did some jail time for misdemeanors. When she was old enough, she entered a mercenary career, serving beside her brother under several different PMC organizations. After her brother was killed, she lost her moral-compass, and ended up getting kicked out for insubordination. Now she was unemployed, drifting, like so many others, when she learned she had been selected by lottery to go to Terra Nova.
