The Free Cities Region is one corner of the world of Pelervar, gathered around the trade-sea called the Zahari Passage. This wiki is the player-facing reference for the region: everything here is common knowledge an educated traveller could plausibly know, have heard, or learn by asking the right person. Where the world keeps a secret, these pages will often tell you that a secret is there without telling you what it is.
The Region at a Glance
At its heart lie the Free Cities themselves — a confederation of independent cities, ports, and towns that long ago decided they would rather argue than be ruled, and have governed themselves by council, charter, and coin ever since.
- To the west stretches the Western Marches, a frontier slowly emptying under raids from across the sea.
- In the mountains above the Marches stand the independent dwarven holds, old allies under the preeminent king at Mott Caridin.
- To the north lie the calm, guarded waters of the Inner Sea and the ancient Elven Lands, watched over by Elandris.
- Beyond the map's edge stand greater realms: the Northern Kingdoms to the north, and the vast Crown Lands to the south-east.
How This Wiki Is Arranged
- The Free Cities — what the confederation is, how it governs itself, and how its seas and laws work. See also Membership Tiers of the Free Cities, Law, Charters and Commerce, and The Seas.
- Cities — Ardaene, Port Arenhold, Ashford, Galvorn, Blacktide Haven, Brindle, and Eastwatch.
- The Wider Region — the Western Marches, the dwarven holds, the Inner Sea, and the realms beyond.
- Faith in Pelervar — the seven gods and their orders, and the three elder powers.
- Guilds and Orders — the institutions that reach across every city line.
- Glossary — titles, terms, and easily-confused names.
A Note on the Map
The regional map shows the Free Cities Region only — not the whole of Pelervar. The Northern Kingdoms and the interior of the Crown Lands lie off its edges.
