DJ originated from the Washington D.C. area, and was lucky to get decent-enough education to be accepted into flight school. He worked as a pilot for various emergency services before being discovered by chance by Keisha's father, and joined his expedition team. He got to know Keisha in the process; they dated, and eventually married—her "taking charge of the relationship" suited him just fine. After the death of her father, she grew distant, and DJ worried it was over for them. Luckily some of his old rescue-buddies proposed a private flight business, which allowed him to participate in and support Keisha's ventures while his friends helped balance him out, emotionally. When Keisha got the call to pilgrimage to Terra Nova, he knew better than to try to talk her out of it, for his business sake or his circle of friends—and the world was dying anyway...
