Background
Born on Drinax to the minor noble House Flynn, Tobias was pressured to entering the military academy to follow the family tradition of serving within the Star Guard. He graduated squarely in the middle of his class, though all of his professors suspected he did not apply himself fully.
Commissioned into the Star Guard as a sub-officer, he was swiftly promoted to sublieutenant within his first year of service due to heroism following a skirmish with pirate forces. He would continue to excel over the next eight years, earning multiple commendations and several addition promotions while displaying an innate understanding of space combat and operations.
Three years ago, however, he was serving as the executive officer aboard a Star Guard system defense boat in the Asim system when a large raiding party of Aslan entered. The official story varies significantly from Flynn's recollection: according to the Star Guard, the Commander Triam Crays ordered a full assault and the system defence boat was heavily mauled, resulting in numerous casualties. Subcomannder Flynn assumed command when his superior was incapacitated and managed to keep the SDB in the fight, though in truth, it was now mostly combat ineffective and thus could not prevent the Aslan from conducting multiple bombing runs. Only the arrival of additional Star Guard ships caused the raiders to withdraw.
Recognizing the political danger he was in, the SDB commander formulated a false narrative about Flynn seizing command and being ultimately responsible for the deaths on Asim. The surviving SDB crew knew this was false, but testified otherwise out of fear of retaliation from the politically connected Commander Crays, though many would do so in such a manner that left questions about the validity of it all. As the various ship recording mysteriously failed, Subcommander Flynn was unable to prove his innocence, but neither was he found guilty. He was ejected from the Star Guard and, thanks to the political machinations of Commander Crays, forced to flee Drinax space where he had been labeled the 'Traitor of Asim.'
Or so the story goes. There is a bit more to it, of course, but he keeps the part about Princess Rao of Drinax personally stepping in to prevent him from being sentenced to a gulag on Asim's ravaged surface and instead recruiting him to covertly conduct a study of the space lanes for another upcoming special mission she has in mind. To that end, he reached out to various contacts and was ultimately recruited into Olympus Enterprises, LLC as a bridge officer.
