Veil (Drug)

Details

Veil is a new designer recreational hallucinogen appearing on the streets of Motor City within the last year, that has been determined to be "very dangerous" and is a banned substance.

The involved compounds have yet to be extensively studied. It is classified as a psychedelic, and has been observed to have hallucinogenic and empathogenic effects, resulting in a solipsistic state (nothing "feels real"). There are unconfirmed, anecdotal accounts that, in some rare instances, use can result in a "psychic experience," including mind-reading or precognition.

Side effects include pupil dilation (mydriasis), twitching, insomnia, appetite loss, heart/blood pressure issues, and increased body heat (hyperthermia), among others. Severe adverse effects can include dehydration, hyperthermia, seizures, muscle pain, severe cardiovascular distress. Can produce long-lasting serotonergic neurotoxicity and associated cognitive and memory deficits as well as psychiatric changes.

It is taken orally, popularly by sucking on popsicle-sticks "painted" with the drug. Requires about 20 minutes to work. Make a HT-2 roll to resist. On a failure, the user suffers the listed effects. This lasts for hours equal to the margin of failure. After that time, the user may roll vs. HT-2 once per hour to shake off the drug’s influence.

• The HT penalty for additional doses within a 24hr period is at an additional -1 per additional dose

Users under the influence of Veil gain/suffer the following:

• Hallucinations (see Incapacitating Conditions, p. B428)
• Unfazeable
• Compulsive Behavior (Risk-Taking); Decreased fear-response can result in abnormal "risk-taking" that can place the user in "external" danger.
• Severe Delusion (Rationalizes Supernatural Occurrences); lasts for Fail# days?

• Long-term use can result in some mild zombie-like symptoms: lower Will, increased aggressive behavior (including biting and scratching).

Notes

• Slang terms for Veil-users: "Pop-heads" "Pop-Users" (reference to popsickle sticks).
• Existence has led to banning popsicle-sticks at schools, and that sort of thing.
