The Free Swords Company is an independent mercenary company that sells its skill without selling its conscience or its loyalty to any single lord, city, or cause. It refuses contracts that turn against civilian populations, splits its profits among its members rather than enriching a single master, and — though it is not a member of the Dawnbreakers Brotherhood and keeps its independence proudly — registers all its contracts with the Brotherhood regardless.
It is led by its Captain-Founder, Sura Veth, beneath whom its members range from Greenhands through Lineholders, Specialists, and Sergeants-at-Line to its officers. It keeps a coolly functional relationship with the Brotherhood that regards it as an unlicensed competitor, and a warmer regard among those who value a company with inconvenient principles.
