The third son of an English Earl who has set out to find his own fortune in glory in the wake of piracy. He jumps at any lead for exotic treasure or buried pirate gold.
His mother regaled him of the tales of the Lost City of Gold, the Fountain of Youth, and many more myths and legends. His desire to do something, and a large amount of money have lead him to where he is. He has met and befriended many strange folk, many who may be a bit crazy, but he is a true believer... There are treasures, powers, and glory to be had for those that seek it. He never turns down a lead, even to his detriment.
He was traveling to the Caribbean on the Beowulf when it was attacked, he an many others were taken prisoner. During an attack by a rescuing British ship, he and the others were able to slip their captivity and aid in the retaking of the ship. The Beowulf now without any formal owner was destine to sit idle, or be returned to England, but Randel had different plans...
He bought the ship and believes it is his good luck charm and his vehicle to fortune and glory! Now to find those willing (and likely crazy enough) to crew it... He does remember an old acquaintance, who claims he has dabbled in the mystic arts... how true that is isn't important, but should they run afoul of something supernatural, Randel feels more comfortable having him by his side.
