Details
His past is a bit of a mystery, as he generally avoids talking about it. "Hoss" says was born sixty years ago, somewhere back East. It's generally inferred he is a freed slave, who worked with his master's horses in his youth. However he got there, the story goes that he ended up in San Fransisco, and joined up with the California Company on their way to the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado to found a new mining camp, what would eventually be incorporated as Babylon. He's been running the livery at the camp, and the town, since it began. He's a good fellow, does a good job, and helps people whenever he can. But he still can't seem to shake the idea that he's somehow a lesser being, and lives in constant fear that he's one wrong word or deed away from being thrown out of town.
