Details
Ulysse worked merchant vessels for Maurice’s father from way back; when Maurice announced his own expedition to the Caribbean, Ulysse offered to master his ship, to teach Maurice the ropes and try to keep him out of trouble, on his father’s behalf. Agreeable but shrewd, he always struck the right chord with merchants and officials. He is a knowledgeable seaman, and the ship’s crew value his insight. He looks after the crew like they were his family.
